What is the right amount of time on a traffic exchange surf timer? You know the little timer that counts down before you can click to the next website and gives you credit for viewing the site.
So today I want to explore, and get YOUR opinion, on how long you think a traffic exchange timer should be. First I will give you my thoughts. Back in the day (2001) the surfing timer on traffic exchanges was 30 seconds. Hard to believe we would sit there forever waiting for that timer but we did. We didn’t know any better. Around 2004 I noticed the timer was shorter on many exchanges, I believe about 20 seconds. Then over the last several years it has gotten shorter and shorter and there are more distractions in the surfing browser. When I first saw the chat bar on the right I felt it was taking away from the whole point of surfing for credits… to have your website VIEWED. Since then I have seen how effective and vibrant these options are. Now we have surf chat, word finder, bonus buttons, text ads, banner ads and more in the surf browser. Is it too much, too distracting? What do you think?
Back to the timer. 20 seconds is a fair amount of time but maybe a tad too long. I think anything less than an 8 second timer is a waste of your hard earned credits. You dedicate your self to surfing so that you can gain credits toward your websites and 5 seconds is a blink of an eye. I have seen several traffic exchanges use a 5 second timer and I certainly hope it is not the new trend. Personally, and maybe I shouldn’t say never… but StarShipHits.com will NEVER have a 5 second timer. From the owners point of view they can deliver a TON more traffic, but what good is that… to me its almost like cheating the members. With a 5 second timer they can deliver DOUBLE the amount of URL hits they would have with a very reasonable 10 seconds. This makes them happy because if they are using up your credits it means you will have to surf more OR buy credits. I don’t like it.
Curernlty StarShipHits.com is on a 12 second timer for free members. Which I think is fair. I feel we are delivering VIEWS for our members and still not asking too much for you to wait 12 seconds. If you upgrade we take 2 seconds off, for as I said a very reasonable… and in my opinion… perfect time of 10 seconds. Our highest upgrade (Admiral) offers an 8 second timer and that my friends is as low as we will go.
